Even though Monkey D. Luffy became one of the Emperors of the Sea after the Whole Cake Island arc, it was after the Wano arc that he truly justified his title. It was not just him, the entire Straw Hat crew proved why they rose to such a high rank. Over the years, Monkey D. Luffy has made several allies, and they have often rescued him from critical situations.
While most of them are appreciated, there is a particular character that does not get the credit he deserves. He is a fan-favorite character, but his contribution is often overlooked. The character in the talk is none other than former Whitebeard Pirates’ First Division Commander, Marco the Phoenix. Without him, there would be no Straw Hat Pirates left alive.
Marco the Phoenix is the Sole Reason Behind Straw Hats Being Alive
Marco the Phoenix was first introduced in One Piece when Shanks came to pay a visit to Whitebeard. He ate the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix. The Devil Fruit gives him the power to regenerate, and his powers were showcased during the Marineford arc. From that point on, he remained one of the most underrated characters, who came to Straw Hat Pirates’ rescue every time.
During the Marineford arc, he stopped a full blast from Kizaru and saved Jimbe and Luffy’s life. While Nami froze from fear, Marco saved her from Kaido’s Blast Breath. Brook and Robin were also saved by him from the Cipher Pol. He fought Beast Pirates’ commanders, King and Queen, and saved Roronoa Zoro and Chopper.
He was one of the top reasons why the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance came out victorious against Kaido. Marco stopped the Big Mom pirates from entering Wano by deflecting their ship back into the sea. While One Piece fans praise all the other members, Marco remains underappreciated. Without him, neither Monkey D. Luffy nor the other Straw Hats would be alive to reach the Egghead Island arc.
Marco the Phoenix Is One of Monkey D. Luffy’s Greatest Allies
Marco the Phoenix is a big fan of Monkey D. Luffy. He sees him as his brother, just like Portgas D. Ace. Whitebeard’s last order was to save Luffy at any cost, and even so long after his death, Marco is still fulfilling his captain’s orders. While the Straw Hats invited him to join the raid, he rejected saying he left his pirating days behind and was busy looking at the people of Whitebeard’s hometown.
But later, he joined the raid on Onigashima and proved his worth. He entered at the most critical moment and helped in changing the result in favor of the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance. Shanks always tries to recruit him, but he always rejects him. He has lost almost every meaningful person, yet still keeps a smiling face.
Eiichiro Oda mentioned he will draw the biggest war in One Piece, and it looks like Marco will be there to back up Luffy and company. He might save them once again and lead them to victory.
